What’s new?
The Hummer EV Pickup has a more fleshed-out model range for the 2023 model year. When it debuted for 2022, it was only available in the Edition 1 trim with Interstellar White paint. For 2023, you can get it in three trims, and the more affordable dual-motor powertrain is now available. There are also now seven paint options instead of just one.

Driving the 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup
Our experience with the available tri-motor powertrain in the Hummer EV has been thrilling. It delivers power to all four wheels for commanding thrust and surprisingly agile handling thanks to the optional 4-wheel steering. This truck can go just as fast as you could possibly want at a second’s notice, thanks to the responsive electric torque.
However, it’s not as intimidating as you might think. Once we were settled into the Hummer, it felt as smooth and comfortable as any premium truck, electric or otherwise. It manages all that power and torque nicely with an accelerator that’s easy to modulate. In our time driving the Hummer, we never felt like the power was overwhelming.

The Hummer EV Pickup disguises its massive curb weight surprisingly well when it comes to handling. However, we were reminded of the weight when we hit the brakes. The brakes are adequate, but you can only trick physics so much, and it takes some time to come to a complete stop from a high speed. That said, it doesn’t take long to get used to it.
The Hummer has many tricks up its sleeve for off-road driving, especially with the optional Extreme Off-Road Package. This option package contains 35-inch mud terrain tires, front and rear lockers, skid plates, ball spline half shafts, and more. The result is an SUV that can handle just about any terrain as long as it’s not too soft. Driving anything that weighs over 9,000 pounds on soft sand or wet mud might not end well.
High-tech interior
The interior of the Hummer EV Pickup is a nice place to be with roomy, comfortable seating, but the high price tag makes us pickier than we’d typically be for a GM GM, +1.92% truck. For a truck that bills itself as a premium vehicle with a starting price over $80,000, it feels a bit lacking compared to a luxury SUV in this price range.
Technology is a strong suit of the Hummer. We like the customizable digital gauge cluster and the Google-powered infotainment system. It’s all very user-friendly and has nice-looking graphics without being too distracting.

Stunning exterior
The GMC Hummer EV Pickup is a truck that looks like nothing else (except its SUV counterpart). This is a big truck that gets lots of attention. It does an excellent job executing a futuristic aesthetic with plenty of reverence for the Hummer’s heritage as a rugged military vehicle.
We noticed some fun Easter eggs throughout the design of the truck, like the letter “H” hidden in the lighting and the wheels, and American flags on the C-pillars.
One of our favorite exterior features is the MultiPro tailgate borrowed from the GMC Sierra. It has six different functions, including a load-stop, steps, and a foldable inner gate. Once you have it, you won’t know how you lived without it.
Our favorite features and tech
Infinity Roof
The Infinity Roof has removable roof panels so you can get a sense of open-air driving without any exhaust noise or smell.
Super Cruise
The available Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system allows for hands-free driving on over 400,000 miles of highway in North America.
CrabWalk
The optional CrabWalk system uses 4-wheel steering to make maneuvering around obstacles in off-road driving easier.
Watts to Freedom
Buckle up; the Watts to Freedom feature launches this electric truck from 0-60 mph in under four seconds.
UltraVision
The optional UltraVision system employs up to 18 camera views so you can see everything around you — and even under you — for parking and off-roading.
MultiPro tailgate
The MultiPro tailgate has six different modes. With this flexible tailgate, you can make a load-stop, steps, and even a desk.
Battery power and range
The Hummer EV Pickup offers a choice of two extremely powerful powertrains.
Dual Motor
The EV2 and EV2X trims come with a dual-motor electric powertrain. This is the more sensible choice for most drivers since it has more power and torque than anyone really needs. The range gets better with the EV2X model, and all-wheel drive comes standard.
Two electric motors
625 horsepower (estimated)
Torque: 7,400 lb-ft (GMC claim)
Estimated range per charge: 250 miles (EV2), 300 miles (EV2X)
Tri-Motor
The tri-motor powertrain in the EV3X trim adds to the insanity of the Hummer. If you’ll spare no expense for the most extreme electric truck on the market, it’s worth every penny. It also gets a pretty good driving range, and you still get the practicality of all-wheel drive.
Three electric motors
830 horsepower (estimated)
Torque: 11,500 lb-ft (GMC claim)
Estimated range per charge: 300 miles

3-Year/36,000-mile warranty
The GMC Hummer EV is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty. This coverage is in line with the Ford F-150 Lightning’s, for instance.
