(Headline USA) MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said Wednesday that every Democrat he speaks with privately questions why President Joe Biden is running for reelection.
During a segment with Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, who wrote an article this week calling on Biden to abandon his 2024 campaign amidst growing concerns about his age and role in his son’s foreign business dealings, Scarborough revealed that many within the Democratic Party agree with Ignatius.
“Mika and I, everybody we talk to, every political discussion — it talks a lot about Trump, but when it comes to Joe Biden, people say, ‘Man, he’s too old to run, isn’t he? He’s not really going to run?’” Scarborough said.
“When I say every discussion, I don’t mean 99% of the discussion. Every discussion,” he added. “I asked Reverend Al if he was hearing it all the time on our show this past week. He’s hearing it as well.”
The private admissions show Democrats are doing the exact same thing they accuse Republicans of doing with former President Donald Trump, Scarborough argued.
“So, you know, we often will complain about Republicans who will say one thing about Donald Trump off the air and another on air,” he said. “Well, let me just say: Democrats, off the air, will say, ‘Joe Biden’s too old. Why is he running?’ On the air? They won’t say that.”
Ignatius, a foreign affairs columnist for the Post who is closely tied to the intelligence community, argued this week that neither Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris should seek reelection due to their historic weaknesses.
“If he and Harris campaign together in 2024, I think Biden risks undoing his greatest achievement — which was stopping Trump,” Ignatius claimed.
The latest CNN poll found that two-thirds of Democrat and Democrat-leaning voters want someone other than Biden to be the Democrat nominee in 2024.
