(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Former U.S. Attorney Patrick Scruggs, who prosecuted numerous peaceful Jan. 6 protestors, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stabbing someone who crashed into his car that morning.
According to reports, Scruggs is accused of stabbing a driver who hit his car following another collision in Florida around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
“Troopers said Scruggs got out of his car and approached the man’s vehicle. He broke a window, then stabbed the driver repeatedly using a pocketknife,” Tampa’s local NBC affiliate reported.
“The couple tried to intervene, but Scruggs tried to stab them. They were able to flee,” the news station added. “An officer who was passing by the scene stopped to help and was able to detain Scruggs and call for backup.”
Scruggs was reportedly arrested on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and armed burglary. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, where was released 10 hours later on a $65,000 bond.
Scruggs reportedly worked as an U.S. Attorney in their Criminal Division from September 2012 to April 2023. The Justice Department did not say why he was no longer employed, and the local Tampa news station said it would keep investigating the matter.
Participants in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill protest-turned-riot were quick to note that Scruggs prosecuted many of them.
Adam Johnson, now known as the “Lectern Guy” for the famous photo of him carrying then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s lectern through the Capitol rotunda, said Scruggs was the lead prosecutor on his case.

“Meet the guy who prosecuted me in Tampa for walking in a building on January 6th,” Johnson said.
“My crimes were so egregious that he demanded I wear an ankle monitor, be drugged tested at random, surrender my passports, be restricted to middle district of Florida, and given a nightly curfew,” he added. “What restrictions do you think he should get for stabbing a man repeatedly in public?”
Skeptics tried to insist that Scruggs wasn’t actually Johnson’s prosecutor, but he clarified that the former U.S. Attorney initially spearheaded the case against him.

He was my initial prosecutor in Tampa for my first hearing, which was responsible for my terms of release. The case got moved to DC, where another prosecutor took over.
