(Headline USA) Kate Bedingfield, the former White House communications director for President Joe Biden, admitted this weekend that Democrats were misrepresenting recent comments by former President Donald Trump about the upcoming election.

Trump spoke at the Turning Point USA-sponsored Believers Summit in Florida on Friday, where he encouraged his supporters to โ€œget out and vote, just this time.โ€

After November, โ€œYou wonโ€™t have to do it anymore โ€ฆ In four years, you donโ€™t have to vote again,โ€ he added. โ€œWeโ€™ll have it fixed so good, youโ€™re not going to have to vote.โ€

Democrats immediately pounced on Trumpโ€™s comments to claim the former president would โ€œend democracy,โ€ with Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., calling Trump an โ€œauthoritarianโ€ who would make sure Americans โ€œnever have the chance to vote again.โ€

However, even Bedingfield argued this was an uncharitable interpretation.

โ€œI realize this will earn me the ire of many Dems, but โ€ฆ I donโ€™t think that here heโ€™s saying there will be no more elections,โ€ Bedingfield wrote on X.

โ€œI think he is saying I wonโ€™t be on the ticket either way, so who cares,โ€ she added. โ€œWhich is hideously damning in its own right, cause this is what the Republican Party has turned itself inside out and shredded its credibility for โ€” to become a stan account for this one awful, narcissistic guy.โ€

In a follow up post, Bedingfield insisted that she was โ€œin no way minimizingโ€ the โ€œthreats that Trump posesโ€ to democracy.ย

โ€œIโ€™m just saying that right here what he is telling us is WHY he doesnโ€™t care about this countryโ€”cause he only cares about him,โ€ she claimed.

After continuing to receive backlash from the Left, though, Bedingfield tried to walk back her earlier statement.

โ€œIโ€™m neither defending him nor giving him the benefit of the doubtโ€”I called him an awful, narcissistic man who is a threat to democracy in my tweets,โ€ she wrote.

โ€œBut we win this thing in part by persuading people who arenโ€™t yet persuaded,โ€ she added. โ€œAnd telling them why heโ€™s a threatโ€”bc he only cares about himselfโ€”is more persuasive than just saying heโ€™s a threat,โ€ she said.

The former Biden staffer came under fire earlier this month for stoking inflammatory rhetoric about Trump just days after the former president narrowly avoided an assassination attempt.
